Friday’s Hero

IMG_4021There are heroes in peace and war. Their actions and responses depend on the ‘game’ they need to play.

Today the BBC  highlights the hero in 24 year old Craig Lundberg’s new actions he is taking now in response to his injuries.

Blinded by an explosion in 2007 whilst serving in Iraq, fellow injured soldiers supported and inspired each to reach the snow topped peak of Mount Kilamanjaro,  Africa’s highest mountain.

It was not easy. By no means. Negotiating tiny tracks that go up sheer sides can be terrifying. Having walked past the base camp many years ago, I remember the ever-increasing swirling mist, rocky outcrops, slithery tracks and scary moments of perpendicular depths.

Neither is this a ‘one off’ event. According to the report, L/Cpl Lundberg intends to achieve a special goal every year. Last year he ran the London Marathon as well as a 350 mile bike ride.

L/Cpl Lundberg has shown, yet again, that life is a journey. It has its stops and its starts, its refueling stations, its rocks and its disappearing tracks.

Can you imagine the thrill, all the emotions, when reach your mountain top? Can you imagine Craig’s emotions when his ten pals each describe the view to him?

It is said that by helping others, we inevitably help ourselves. Who are you helping today to achieve their dream, to take a step forward, irrespective whether it is large or small?
