At war with yourself?

Many of us are constantly fighting our demons, wrestling with issues, putting on a brave face whilst carrying around shed loads of problems.

How light is your baggage?

Many of us carry baggage around with us.  We open it up at various intervals to check that it’s still there. We add to it continuously. The load becomes heavier and heavier. And still, we bear its weight. Maybe it is because the additions are added bit by bit and we adapt to the increase, we endure with a hardy smile, accepting it as our lot, our punishment, our genes, our own designer label.

We begin to pride ourselves on our story. We lap up the concern and compassion of others. And still we wait. Wait for the sun to shine, money, freebies, some day.  We become so stuck, we begin to find it difficult to move out of our ‘stuckness’ and the weight of our baggage becomes almost unbearable. We need help and we’ve almost reached the point where we cannot even move.

The time is now. To lighten our load; to take action, however small, to put one small step in front in front of the other. Nothing big or fancy.

Step one: breathe.

One slow deep breath in, feeling your belly fill up with air,
then slow, long breath out, feeling the warmth of the air as it exits your nostril.

Close your eyes and merely focus on your breathing for a few minutes. Until your mind seems a bit calmer.

Now, what small step can you take next?
